Since 2023, the Booksellers’ Photography Book Prize has, each year, highlighted a book published by a member publisher of France PhotoBook.
The jury brings together 15 bookshops spread across France, the jury’s task is to select a winning book from among the titles published during the year by member publishers. The list of bookshops serving on the jury is presented on the page dedicated to each edition.
Each year, a leading figure from contemporary French literature chairs the Booksellers’ Photography Book Prize. Following Yannick Haenel, Marie Darrieussecq and Marie-Hélène Lafon, Maylis de Kerangal is chairing the fourth edition and offering her perspective on the output of French publishers of photography books.
The €3,000 prize money will go to the photographer. The publisher of the winning book also receives assistance in promoting the work, by organizing meetings in bookshops.
The prize was launched thanks to the support of several publishers: Harmonia Mundi Livre, Actes Sud, Interforum, Pollen Diffusion and Saveca-Art & Paper, as well as the Académie des Beaux-Arts.
We also like to thank the MEP – Maison Européenne de la Photographie for hosting the deliberations of 2026 Booksellers’ Prize.
France PhotoBook receives support from the Ministry of Culture for all its initiatives relating to the photography book.
This project has been designated as part of the Bicentenary of Photography by the Ministry of Culture and forms part of the official programme for the Bicentenary of Photography, running from 1 September 2026 to 3 September 2027.
