The focus of this talk will question how working together with a designer, publisher or an artist on a book project, can affect the reader in ways such as touch, sound, time and space.

Publier la guerre ? / Publicising war?

Les images de guerre font l’actualité, prises par des photoreporters, quelquefois par des civils quand le pays se ferme. Elles arrivent ici, derrière nos frontières à une vitesse presque instantanée qui en mesure la valeur pour les médias. Faites, envoyées, diffusées, utilisées. Plus tard, elles seront des archives, de l’Histoire pour les survivants et les chercheurs.Y a-t-il un intervalle éditorial, un temps de création de livres photographiques pour poser, opposer un autre regard sur la guerre, quant celle-ci fait rage ?

Images of war are all over the news, taken by photojournalists, and sometimes by civilians when the country closes. They arrive here, across our borders, almost instantaneously, which is a measure of their value to the media. They are taken, sent, distributed and used. Later, they will become archives and history for survivors and researchers. Is there an editorial opportunity, a time when photobooks can be created to take a fresh look at war as it rages?

Photographie et littérature, un nouvel élan / Photography and literature, a new impetus.

Il semblerait que dans l’édition photographique actuelle les lignes bougent, de nouvelles collections organisant la rencontre entre littérature et photographie se créent, les libraires s’arrachent les cheveux : où classer tel titre ? Le livre de photographie n’est-il finalement pas si éloigné d’un ouvrage de littérature ? Peut-on ranger un grand écrivain dans les rayons des livres de photographie ? Y aurait-il une spécificité française dans le dialogue entre ces deux arts ? Faut-il des mots ? Est-ce une façon d’atteindre de nouveaux publics ? Ces questions, qui ne sont que des prolégomènes, lancent le débat.

In the field of photographic publishing today, the boundaries are shifting, new collections are being created to bring together literature and photography, and booksellers are scratching their heads about how to classify certain titles. Ultimately, is a book of photography really that different from a work of literature? Can we put a great writer on the shelves of photography books? Is there something uniquely French about the dialogue between these two arts? Do we need words? Is it a way of reaching new audiences? These questions, which are merely prolegomena, launch the debate.
